Theodore M. Luntz was born on June 4, 1926 in Canton, Ohio, to Abe M. and Fanny Luntz, a prominent Jewish couple in the Canton community. He was one of five children. He attended University School and Yale University. He graduated from Yale in 1948. He served in the army during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952. He married Idarose Schock on August 23, 1953.
